The Delhi Capitals paid ₹9 crore to acquire Jake Fraser-McGurk during the IPL mega auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. At first, Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) made a serious effort to sign the Australian opener. Although it seemed like PBKS had signed him, the Delhi Capitals used their Right to Match card to keep the former player.
The Capitals dismissed Fraser-McGurk, 22, before to this year’s auction following an outstanding 2024 season in which he amassed 330 runs at a scorching strike rate of 234. In addition to making his ODI and T20I debuts for Australia this year, he has established himself as a reliable player in T20 franchise competitions, scoring 1,169 runs at a strike rate of 152.41.
When Punjab Kings bought Shreyas Iyer for ₹26.75 crore ($4.87 million) earlier in the auction, he broke Mitchell Starc’s record from the previous year and became the most expensive IPL player. But in a stunning change of circumstances, Rishabh Pant was put under the hammer once more, breaking the record.
One of the first players to be auctioned off this year was Fraser-McGurk’s countryman, Starc, who joined the Delhi Capitals for ₹11.75 crore ($2.14 million). He was the most expensive player in IPL history at the time, earning ₹24.75 crore, which is less than half of this amount.
