At the IPL 2025 auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) paid an incredible Rs 27 crore for India’s wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant. He therefore became the most expensive player in IPL history, surpassing Shreyas Iyer, who was sold to Punjab Kings for Rs 26.75 crore.

The most fierce bidding battle in IPL history was, predictably, triggered by the India wicketkeeper-batter, starting with RCB and LSG facing off. When the price soared beyond INR 11 crore, the Royal Challengers pulled out, but Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) entered the flurry to take on Lucknow.

LSG attempted to lead with a bid of INR 20.75 as the paddles rose, but the Delhi Capitals countered with the Right To Match card. But then, in a brilliant move, the Sanjeev Goenka-owned team raised the asking price by 6.25 crore and managed to sign the 27-year-old.

Pant, who is now playing for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, spent eight years with the Delhi Capitals after making his IPL debut. In his 111 IPL games thus far, he has amassed 3284 runs with a strike rate of 148.93. Pant has lived for a century and eighteen-eighth years.

Following the departure of Shreyas Iyer, the 27-year-old was named captain of DC. He was hurt in a vehicle accident and missed the 2023 Indian Premier League. He returned to competition during the 2024 Indian Premier League after achieving full fitness, finishing as DC’s leading scorer with 446 runs from 13 innings with a strike rate of 155.40. Three half-centuries were made by him.

Rishabh Pant, an Indian batsman and wicketkeeper who has scored 3,284 runs in 111 IPL games, is making his debut at the super auction. Pant has been a vital member of the Delhi Capitals since making his IPL debut in 2016. The squad decided not to keep him even though he was the team’s captain in 2024 and finished as their top run scorer. Known for his ability to adapt to many forms, Pant is considered one of the best batters of his time and can win games on his own in any circumstance.
