On Day 1 of the IPL mega auction in Jeddah, the Chennai Super Kings brought back local boy Ravichandran Ashwin for a special reunion after ten years, rekindling their love for the old school. Vijay Shankar and Devon Conway also rejoined the team after Ashwin was acquired for Rs 9.75 crore. On Day 2, they brought back Shaik Rasheed, Mukesh Choudhary, and Sam Curran for Rs 2.40 crore, continuing the trend.
With a focus on their transition following MS Dhoni’s resignation as captain last season, CSK will welcome the new IPL cycle. CSK will unavoidably consider reorganizing their team in a new cycle under Ruturaj Gaikwad without completely abandoning their heritage.
By keeping the 43-year-old Dhoni for another season, CSK was able to keep their lucky charm without having to spend a lot of money. CSK was able to get Dhoni for as little as Rs 4 crore thanks to the new IPL rule that allows Indian internationals to be placed in the uncapped category if they haven’t played for the national team or had a BCCI contract for five years. Along with captain Ruturaj, CSK also kept all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja for up to 18 crore, even though the 35-year-old just retired from Twenty20 Internationals. The team only had one RTM card for the IPL Mega Auction after Shivam Dube and Matheesha Pathirana solidified other retentions.
The following players were purchased by the Chennai Super Kings during the auction: Devon Conway (Rs 6.25 crore), Rahul Tripathi (Rs 3.40 crore), Rachin Ravindra (Rs 4 crore), R Ashwin (Rs. 9.75 crore), Khaleel Ahmed (Rs 4.80 crore), Noor Ahmad (Rs 10 crore), Vijay Shankar (Rs 1.2 crore), Sam Curran (Rs 2.4 crore), Shaik Rasheed (Rs 30 lakh), Anshul Kamboj (Rs 3.40 crore), Mukesh Choudhary (Rs 30 lakh), Deepak Hooda (Rs 1.70 crore), Gurjaptneet Singh (Rs 2.20 crore), Nathan Ellis (Rs 2 crore), Jamie Overton (Rs 1.5 crore), Kamlesh Nagarkoti (Rs 30 lakh), Ramakrishna Ghosh (Rs 30 lakh), Shreyas Gopal (Rs 30 lakh), Vansh Bedi (Rs 55 lakh), Andre Siddarth (Rs 30 lakh)
