Sophie Devine, the star all-around player for the New Zealand women’s team, has requested a vacation from her work obligations because she feels the need to prioritize her personal health. Devine is presently competing for Wellington in the ongoing Super Smash. In five games thus far, she has amassed 38 runs and claimed eight wickets. Her last Wellington appearance was in a match against Canterbury in Christchurch, when she won 13/5 to reverse the tide of the contest.

Due to her decision, the right-handed hitter will have to return home and miss the rest of the current domestic season. In addition, Devine, a key member of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) lineup for Royal Challengers Bengaluru Women (RCB-W), will not play in the 2025 season. New Zealand Cricket acknowledged the significance of Devine’s choice and noted that the right-arm pacer’s future possibilities will be examined while revealing the news.
“The welfare of our players is our first priority and comes before anything else. Everyone believes that Sophie’s is the greatest alternative available, and the New Zealand Cricket Players Association and our own high performance unit personnel provided outstanding assistance. Before Sophie returns to professional cricket, NZC’s head of women’s high performance development, Liz Green, stated that the team’s first priority is that she has a nice break, gets the care and support she needs, and is well.
