Following the third Test match between Australia and India at the Gabba in Brisbane, Indian veteran cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin announced his retirement from international play. Babar Azam used social media to send his best wishes to Ashwin.
During the news conference, the 38-year-old discussed his choice in front of skipper Rohit Sharma. Since then, players have been paying their respects to the renowned bowler, and the most recent to do so is Babar Azam.
He claimed 537 wickets in 106 Test matches, including 37 five-fers. For the Men in Blue, the right-arm spinner took 228 wickets in 181 white-ball games in both forms.
In the meanwhile, Babar Azam defeated South Africa in the second ODI, scoring 73 runs off 95 balls. He and Mohammad Rizwan had a third-wicket partnership of 115 runs, with the captain scoring 80 from 82. The total reached 329 thanks to Kamran Ghulam’s 63 off 32.
Their side won by 81 runs as Shaheen Shah Afridi (4 wickets) and Naseem Shah (3 wickets) held the Proteas to 248.
