Joe Root, England’s top batsman, is back in action as he prepares to captain his team in the national white-ball setup for the upcoming tour of India and the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The team’s last appearance in this format was during England’s campaign in the 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, where Root was entrusted with the leadership role.
Unfortunately, the English team only won three out of their nine matches, leading to their elimination in the group stage. On December 22, the England and Wales Cricket Board announced their 15-man T20I and ODI squads for the 2025 Champions Trophy, as well as the tour of India, which is set to begin next month.

In terms of statistics, Root has played 171 ODIs, scoring a total of 6,522 runs at an average of 47.60. His achievements include 39 half-centuries and 16 centuries, with his highest individual score being an unbeaten 133. Root is already considered a legend in Test cricket, having amassed 12,972 runs at an average of 50.9 over 152 Test matches. His record includes 36 fifties and 65 hundreds, with a highest score of 262.
