In a Group C Vijay Hazare encounter on Saturday in Ahmedabad, Punjab easily defeated Arunachal Pradesh by nine wickets thanks to a brilliant 35-ball century from Anmolpreet Singh, the fastest List A century by an Indian.

The record set by former India all-rounder Yusuf Pathan, who made a century off 40 balls for Baroda against Maharashtra in 2009–10, was surpassed by Anmolpreet, who was unsold in the most recent IPL auction.

Additionally, this knock is the third-fastest on the list. A hundred behind South African AB de Villiers’ 31-ball century against the West Indies in Johannesburg in 2014-15 and Australian Jake-Fraser McGurk’s 29-ball century for South Australia against Tasmania in 2023-24.

Anmolpreet, who is right-handed, scored 115 off 45 balls (12×4, 9×6) as Punjab reached 167 for one after chasing down a target of 165 in just 12.5 overs.

Anmolpreet and Prabhsimran Singh (35 not out, 25b) milked 153 runs for the unbroken second wicket combination to lead Punjab home after captain Abhishek Sharma (10) fell early.

Earlier, leg-spinner Mayank Markande and pacer Ashwani Kumar each claimed three wickets as Arunachal was bowled out for 164.

Brief scores: Punjab defeated Arunachal Pradesh by 9 wickets at 167/1 in 12.5 overs (Anmolpreet Singh 115 not out) after Arunachal Pradesh had 164 all out in 48.4 overs (Tech Neri 42, Hardik Varma 38; Ashwani Kumar 3/37, Mayank Markande 3/31).
