In the IPL 2025 auction on Sunday, Glenn Maxwell will rejoin the Punjab Kings for Rs 4.2 crore. Sunrisers Hyderabad made a late opening bid of Rs 2 crore for the Australian all-rounder. They were fought to Rs 2.60 crore by PBKS.

Before withdrawing, Chennai Super Kings put up an offer of Rs 2.80 crore. The 36-year-old, who played for PBKS from 2014 to 2021, will be joining the squad for the second time.

This time, there was no bidding battle, unlike the previous seasons when Maxwell had gone for more Rs 10 crore.

Maxwell scored only 52 runs in 10 games during his disappointing 2024 season with the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), but his versatility makes him a desirable possibility for teams.

He proved to be a significant asset for the RCB, scoring 1,266 runs and taking 18 wickets in his four seasons there. In the IPL, he has amassed over 2,700 runs with a strike rate of 156.

Maxwell, often known as the “Big Show,” is a middle-order disruptor who can destroy bowling lineups with his unconventional strokes, which include switch hits and reverse sweeps. He is useful in every stage of a Twenty20 match because of his ability as a finisher and occasional spinner.
