As the 2025 Indian Premier League approaches, many Delhi Capitals supporters and analysts are expressing uncertainty about the team’s leadership. In response, former Team India batsman and wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik announced that Axar Patel, an explosive all-rounder, will captain the Delhi Capitals in the upcoming season.
However, an official confirmation of this decision has not yet been made. Karthik believes that Axar has a significant opportunity to showcase his leadership skills during the forthcoming Twenty20 International series against England. He commended the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for naming Axar as the vice-captain to Suryakumar Yadav, emphasizing the importance of this role for the all-rounder.
“Best wishes to Axar Patel for the position of vice-captain of India. This is a wonderful opportunity for him. He will also lead the Delhi Capitals as captain. He has a great chance to take charge and set an example here. He has previously captained Gujarat as well,” Karthik noted. Interestingly, Axar has been with the Delhi Capitals for the past six seasons. Ahead of the big auction, the team has invested heavily in him, paying Rs 18 crore to retain him. Karthik believes that this investment reflects Axar’s importance to the franchise.
