At the IPL 2025 super auction, Mohit Sharma was purchased by the Delhi Capitals for INR 2.2 crore. Only the Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Titans placed bids for the seasoned right-arm bowler, who had registered for the auction with a base price of INR 50 lakh. Ultimately, the Delhi Capitals outbid Gujarat to sign Sharma for the next campaign.

The 35-year-old Sharma has played for the Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Titans, Punjab Kings, and Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League. His IPL career started in 2013 with Chennai, when he quickly made an impression by leading his club to the final and grabbing 20 wickets in 15 games. Over the next several years, Sharma maintained his success, claiming 23 wickets in 2014 and 14 wickets in 2015.
Sharma rejoined the Chennai Super Kings in 2019 following a spell with the Punjab Kings in 2016–2017, during which he took 13 and 20 wickets in two seasons. Before getting discharged, he only participated in one match. He returns to the IPL in 2023 with the Gujarat Titans after having little opportunities in 2020 and 2021. Sharma made an impression during his return season, taking 27 wickets in 14 games. In 2024, he added 13 more wickets.
