Heinrich Klaasen, the star batsman for South Africa, has been in the news recently after the International Cricket Council (ICC) penalized him for violating their code of conduct. He received a Level 1 violation, resulting in a fine of 15% of his match fee.
Additionally, Klaasen’s disciplinary record now includes one demerit point for breaching Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Staff. This penalty was imposed after he kicked the stumps following his dismissal in the second ODI (One Day International) of the current series against Pakistan. As for the ongoing ODI series between Pakistan and South Africa, the Proteas have struggled to make an impact.
Pakistan has won both of the matches played so far, first by three wickets in Paarl and then with another strong performance in Cape Town. In the second ODI, Pakistan batted first and, thanks to Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam, who scored 80 and 73 runs respectively, the team accumulated a total of 329 runs. Pakistan then restricted South Africa to 248 runs, with key contributions from Naseem Shah and Shaheen Afridi, ultimately winning the match by 81 runs.
With the series already won, Pakistan will focus on the third and final ODI. The Proteas will aim for a consolation victory while the Men in Green will seek to complete a clean sweep. The third ODI between the two teams is scheduled to take place at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg on Sunday, December 22.
